School Bullying – Teaching Your Child to Stick Up for Themselves
School bullying has become a fact of life in recent years. Over 70% of children have admitted to being bullied at school at one point or another in their long lives. This does not make it right, but it does make it a problem that must be dealt with. The most important thing that you can do as a parent is teach your children how to stick up for themselves and deal with a bully at school.
Ignore the Bully
The first step that your children should always be taught to take is simply ignoring the bully. Many times this will work, and the offending child will move on since they are not getting the reaction they had expected.
Try to Talk Things Out
It might be that the person doing the school bulling may not be a bully at all, but may have simply been offended by something your child did and wants an apology. Try to teach your child how to calming stand up to the person and talk the problem out.
Report the Child
If the above two steps have failed to resolve the case of school bullying, then your child’s next step should be to report the offender to a teacher or principle at school. The school should take the appropriate actions right away to put an end to the problem for good.
Seek Out the Child’s Parents
If all efforts from your son or daughter and the school have failed, then it may be time for you to take action and confront the bully’s parents. Make them aware of the situation, and let them know that you have taken ever action to avoid having to come to them. They should then take over and do what is necessary to control their child.
School bullying has become increasingly worse in recent years. With all of the new technology, children are finding new ingenious ways to pick on each other. If your child is being bullied at school, then you should take the necessary steps needed to learn more about how to deal with this problem.
