As parents and teachers look the other way, kids live in fear of going to school each day to face the bullies who make their lived miserable. So, what can be done to stop this harmful epidemic?

Tips for Parents

As a parent, your number one priority is to protect the well being of your child. When kids are bullying kids, there is a lot of degradation that is going on. Therefore, bullied children come out with low self esteem and self worth. Parents need to be as encouraging and comforting as possible. If you are angry over your child being hurt, then try  to control those emotions until you are away from them as that can only make the situation worse. Listen to what your child has to say, and offer them solutions on how to deal with the problem.

Recommendations for Children

If you are a parent or teacher of a child who is being bullied, then there are several different techniques that you can share with them to help them to get rid of bullying kids. These bullies are out for reactions and to dominate another. If they are not given that satisfaction, then they will go away. Some helpful tips for children include:

• Walking away from and ignoring the bully. Once most bullies see that they cannot get a reaction out of their victims, they will back off.
• Always travel with a buddy or friend. As silly as it sounds, an aggressor is much less likely to attack when children travel in pairs or groups.
• Do not react to the bully in any way. Since aggressive children thrive on reactions, they will get bored easily when your child does not cry or get upset. Children should also avoid laughing or other such gestures as those can provoke the aggressive child.
• Tell an adult if the situation get to extreme or is more than they can handle on their own.

Bullying kids has been a part of life for many years, and while it is not a new problem it is one that should be addressed and dealt with sternly. If bullies are allowed to do whatever they like, then the abuse of others will continue forever.
