How to Stop Bullying – Solutions for Parents, Teachers, and Children

No other form of violence in the world has more long term effects than those caused by bullying. That is what leaves so many parents, teachers, and children wondering how to stop bullying. Fortunately there are a wide variety of options available to those who truly want to put an end to aggressive and hurtful behaviors.

Solutions for Parents

The first thing that parents should do in an effort to help their children end bullying is to talk to them. Many parents stop talking to or encouraging their children to talk to them as they get older. In order to get to the bottom of the problem that may be causing the negative behaviors however, it is important for parents to not only talk to their children but to listen as well. It is also essential that parents allow their children to be a part of developing the solution and implement it themselves in order to gain self esteem and respect.

Solutions for Teachers

Teachers are an important part of a child’s life. There are many ways that they can learn how to stop bullying, and in doing so they can improve the lives of their students, and can improve the behavior of their class as well. Teachers can help children understand why bullying is wrong and what it can do to the individuals who are targeted through lesson plans and classroom activities. They can also develop a strict list of consequences that will be enforced should a child be caught bullying another.

Solutions for Children

Children should be given a variety of ways of how to stop bullying. This is because what works well for one child may not work for another. Some common solutions that can be implemented by children include:

• Giving the bully a cold shoulder and showing no response or emotion.
• Reporting the bully to an authority figure.
• Avoiding contact with the aggressive child.
• Becoming involved in activities and making new friends in an effort to stop being isolated and to boost self esteem.
• Stand up to the bully and let them know that their behavior will not be tolerated anymore.

While being bullied can have effects that last a lifetime, it is not impossible to stop. Once parents, teachers, and children become aware of the variety of ways that that can learn how to stop bullying, they can band together to put a stop to this type of aggressive behavior.
