Children all around the world dread going to school each day. Why is this? The dread school, because it is where they are harassed, insulted, and hurt on a daily basis. A school bully can be quite a threat for a child that has no idea how to go up against them. These easy to follow tips and ideas can help you teach your child about dealing with a bully in their school.

Make Yourself an Unattractive Victim

There are certain characteristics that all children who are bullied have. These include being physically smaller or different in some way, being soft spoken or withdrawn, and being smart. Children who are different than the norm in any way, or who are not outgoing and popular are easy targets for those who call themselves a school bully.

In order to beat these bullies, it is necessary for a child to make themselves an unattractive victim. They can do this by making themselves more like the other students around them, but there are easier ways to do this and keep their identities as well. For instance, a victim can try avoiding the bully, walking away when they approach, or just ignoring them. Bullies do not like to put forth a lot of effort, and if a victim is too hard to humiliate, the bully will move on to someone else.

Leave it to the Professionals

If basic measures were taken, and the school bully is still attacking your child, then they will need to learn how to leave the problem in the hands of the professionals. Teachers for instance, can start implementing the no bullying policy of the school as soon as they receive notice that your child is being bullied.

It is important that you help your child understand that it is always better to let the adults handle the situation. That way, they stay out of trouble and the problem is taken care of. If the teacher’s are not effective, your child and you can report the problem to the principal, school board, or even the authorities until you are satisfied with the results.

Avoid Violence

Some parents deal with a school bully by teaching their child to meet violence with violence. This is the worst thing that a parent can do however, and even if you are simply trying to protect your child, this is not the way to do it. If your child meets a bullies’ violence with violent or demeaning actions of their own, then they are just showing all of their peers that this type of behavior is the answer.

Instead, focus on teaching your child how to passively defend themselves from physical harm, and how to ignore attacks that are aimed at their emotions. This way, your child is able to take the higher road, and show others through their actions that it is possible to beat a school bully without violence.
