Anti Bullying Programs – How to Stop Bullying at School and in Your Community
Although anti bullying programs are just starting to become more and more popular within local schools and communities, they are not a new concept. For as long as there have been bullies, there have been people trying to stop or prevent these actions from taking place. With the recent violent events in the news however, more people are beginning to see the need for such programs and they are popping up all over the place. When developed with a strong foundation and for the right reasons, these programs can go a long way to protecting the local youth.
What Good Do These Programs Do?
Anti bullying programs not only strive to eliminate aggressive behavior that is presented by the bullies, but they also strive to teach victims or potential victims what they can do to ward off the advances of a bully. By giving these victims a voice and the means to handle themselves, these programs are preventing bullies from gaining power and are stopping thousands of acts of aggression each day.
How to Start an Anti Bullying Program
There are various ways to start such a program in your community. This can be anything from a group of students with a teacher that meets at regular intervals at a school, or even an elaborate neighborhood watch program that strives to keep an eye out for potential problems. Whatever type of program you decide to start, it needs at least one adult as the leader to guide the younger members. It also needs to be active and hold the attention of the members that it draws in. In order to be successful at what it is designed to do, this type of program must have an active following of members who are determined to make a difference.
Strength in Numbers
It may not seem that the voice of a few people can make a difference where bullies are concerned, but there is strength in numbers. If everyone stands up together and lets a bully know that a certain behavior will not be accepted, then it is much easier to make the aggressor back down without a fight. That is why these programs are so helpful; they give the weaker individuals a chance to stand up to a bully when they normally would not have been able to.
If you or your organization has been thinking of beginning an anti bullying program, then do not hesitate any longer. With an active following of members it is easier to address the behavior of bullies and to make them back down before they hurt anyone else with their words or actions.
