I just came across this article today on how an gay Ohio teen was brutally assaulted in school while classmates stood around video recording the incident. The poor kid suffered two broken teeth and a concussion. I can’t believe that we are still experiencing so much intolerance and hate in the 21st century. Incidents like this make my stomach turn. This is a free country and everyone deserves to live in peace. I have to ask the bully does this really effect you? Does the gay student really pose any threat or danger to you? No right? Then why are you acting like a complete moron! No one has the right to do that to anyone regardless of race, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation! To the bystanders, wake up and report these incidents to the school authorities. If you show the bully that he does not a have an supportive audience for his actions he will less likely engage in this kind of behavior in the future. § Read the rest of this entry…

Are Attitudes On Bullying Are Changing?

§ September 9th, 2011 § Filed under Uncategorized § 2 Comments

I recently read an article in the Boston Globe about the changing views of bullying among the student population. Many experts believe more incidents of bullying in schools are no longer going unreported. Kids today are more likely to report bullying to teachers and pricipals. This is encouraging news for victims of bullying. In the past victims often felt isolated and alone with very little support. Most were left to deal with the problem themselves and with little avenues to turn too. Often bystanders would say very little due to peer pressure. Many would often join in on the bullying themselves. The bully needs an audience and attention. If he or she continues to receive this they will continue this behavior. However now that the witnesses are nolonger standing by they have lost their perceived support for their actions. I hope this positive culture shift continues to gather steam for many years to come. § Read the rest of this entry…

Learning To Build Assertive Confidence

§ May 17th, 2011 § Filed under Uncategorized Comments Off

Hello everyone! I wanted to respond to a recent comment that was addressed to the I Hate Bullies blog. This individual had accused me of advocating violence and that the best option is to walk away.

First off I belived this individual did not read the posts clearly. I have always stated that violence is the last option unless you were physically being assaulted. It is in this situation that you have the right to defend yourself within reason. If this means punching, or kicking to get away then by all means do so.

In Casey Haynes situation he was being punching repeatedly. If the bully was bigger who could have cause some serious injuries to Casey.

When I refer to fighting back against bullying it is not meant to be taking literally. Fighting back can mean physically in a violent situation. Fighting back can also mean getting law enforcement involved. Fighting back can mean getting the school board and administrators involved.

If someone just calls you a name then walk away. What is the big deal? As Bruce Lee once said I use the art of fighting without fighting. I teach my self-defense students this thinking all the time.

However I am not going to teach my students to be victims of violence. That starts by buiding their assertive confidence through training. Remember people who pick on other people look for weakness or perceived weakness in individuals. They want an easy target. Nobody is looking to pick on someone who will give them a hard fight. By developing your assertive confidence you will make yourself an undesirable target. You will walk with confidence, talk with confidence, and have a certain swagger.

As I always said it is easy to talk and walk away from a potential violent situation knowing you have the confidence to do something about it if needed.

Interview With Bully Beater Casey Haynes

§ March 22nd, 2011 § Filed under Uncategorized § 2 Comments

This is a great interview with bullying victim Casey Haynes who recently fought back against his bullies. His video of the confrontation went viral around the world. It was great to see a bullying victim show they are willing to defend themselves and no longer be silent. I can’t believe the school suspended Casey. Where are all these school administrators when bullying victims are constantly harrassed everday?

I am so proud of Casey for acting in self-defense. My parents used to tell me to ignore the bullies but it never worked. It just brought more racial slurs and physical confrontation. Fighting back and taking stand always stopped the bullying.

I remember when I was 12 years old and playing on a baseball team. There was one kid who would always call me chink and other names. During the game in the dugout he decided to punch me in the face while I was sitting on the bench. Like you I was fed up with the comments, stood up and punched the kid in the head. I stood over him telling him never to call me chink again! The whole team watched in shock as the event unfolded. Members of the team told the bully to not mess with me because he will suffer the same fate again. After that no more bullying from this punk!

Stand tall and stay proud Casey!

Casey Haynes Shows How To Teach Bullies A Lesson!

§ March 21st, 2011 § Filed under Uncategorized Comments Off

Here is a video that has been making the rounds on YouTube and around the world. Casey Haynes an Australian student was punched and bullied by a fellow student. Instead of walking away he stood up and defended himself by slamming the bully to the ground.

There have been many comments on the situation. Some in support of Casey while others felt he should have walked away. In my experience walking away never worked. Instead it just gave the bullies more ammunition to come back and bully me some more. It was only when fought back that the bullying stop.

I commend Casey for standing up for himself. He did not jump on the bully after he defended himself. Believe me he could have stood over the punk to administer some more punishment. Instead he chose to walk away after slammed him to the ground.

So for all you bullies out there I hope you see this video and think twice about picking on your next victim!

This blog has grown in the number of regular visitors over the past couple of years. So much so that I have decided to take the blog to another level. We have planned for the future a number of things such as up to date Twitter feeds to keep you posted on the ongoings at I Hate Bullies. As well I will be filming a series of videos on You Tube teaching you self-defense on how to handle yourself in a situation if a bully starts to get physical beyond reason. Now this is not a course on how to pick fights but a series on self-protection and building self-esteem. I will not teach you how to do fancy flying kicks or jumping back kicks. Instead it will be a no non-sense approach in dealing with potentially threatening situation.
